I posted the following on another thread and thought it might be of interest to the general aviation population.
Something I have found that works when trying to disassemble rusty parts is to soak them in a bath of kerosene. Kerosene used to
be cheap to buy, but kinda rediculous now...$5 or so per gallon. The good side of it is that it lasts forever when put in a cleaning tank so you can clean many things with it later. If you take the sparkplugs out so the kerosene can get inside, or can remove the heads altogether....then just let the engine soak in the kerosene bath for a few days.....maybe a couple of weeks if the rust is bad enough....but it will eventually come free. Try rotating the crank every so often
till it begins to move a little and then continue soaking. Another use for the clean kerosene is to keep a spray bottle handy. When anyone leaves an oil spot/puddle on your nice concrete driveway, spray it with kerosene before it gets rained on or hopefully within a couple of days and the spot/puddle will
just disappear. I've had some people leave some serious puddles on my drive and they just disappear. Might have to give a second spray the next day on
the larger ones. It sure keeps the wife happier............
