I found mentions of this, but no thread specifically about this, so how about a homebuilt crop duster? Some aspects of the idea that I can think of are: it would be a different economic because you wouldn't be trying to make a profit from the act of spraying crops alone, you could go about it in a more leisurely and perhaps less radical/dangerous way (not time critical like a strictly profit driven activity...), you could use the airplane for things other than just spraying (like for fun, even, disguised as a proficiency building exercise), a well designed crop duster could be used for hauling supplies as well as dusting if it had a hopper that can be quickly replaced by a cargo hold/pod and then you could even carry people if you wanted.
It looks like the airboat drives may work well for aircraft, and so a relatively inexpensive crop duster type home built meant to be powered by a V8 big or small block is a distinct possibility.
Any interest in this?
PS, I don't think this would run the big guys out of business - it wouldn't be for everyone, you know...
