Anyone have a reasonable average guess for the time and number of flights it takes a power pilot to get to a glider rating?
I'm asking because there's a club nearby, but it's all aerotow and the aircraft are rented with a fixed fee per flight; the two-seater is $20/flight, single seaters $5-10, and tows are $1/100ft. Great if you stay up for a while, sucky if you're practicing landings...
Instruction's a flat fee though!
There's also the $500 in joining fees, books, and first month's membership.
I could afford to sustain membership, but the initial cost of getting the rating (I assume lots of sled rides for landing practice) would make the initial cash flow really steep.
