It is my belief that soon affordable FEA tools will be in the hands of us novice designers through the use of student licenses and at some point reasonable priced copies. Perhaps those of you that use the 40K seats of ANSI or whatever might a have quick answer to a basic question. I am trying to model a riveted test coupon, and no matter how I pick the contacts (bonded, separation, sliding, etc) I get indication of over stress at contact with the plates. Is this normal? This rivet is modeled as a .125 AD rivet with allowable of 389 LB. in two .125 plates. There is 300 LB applied as the force.
