1. Is designing, building, and testing a subscale item (for example, R/C sized wing) a good practice exercise to verify the design and analysis methods and the materials (not the full-scale design)? And also to learn layup techniques? Or is it just a waste of time?

2. Does a non-flightworthy ultimate load test article need to have finishing applied (fill/fair), or can it be tested in the rough post-cure condition? I would think not, but I want to check.
