Need some advice.
I'm building my wing rib jig and came across a problem that is common in the Pietenpol community. The rib profile is not perfect and has some errors. Most people find that the rear spar is too large by about 1/8 inch to fit in the prescribed location. Some folks bevel the spar and some notch the capstrip a bit to fit the spar in the correct location. The notch goes from 0 in depth on the front face of the spar to about 1/8" at the rear face. This is on the top side of the spar only. See attached drawing for an idea of what I mean.
My question is if there is anything structurally dangerous with notching a capstrip if there is a good glue joint with the spar. My thinking is that once the capstrip is glued to the spar it becomes one with it anyway. A notch wouldn't make a difference. What do you think?
