I've seen many a discussion on motors over the years and my conclusion from my point of view is that little can achieve the same degree of power/ economy and failsafe than the Diesel motor.
I had thought that a Mazda Rotary in a Diesel/ Jet A fuel system would be the answer. This would require a low compression sparkplug initiated firing system, but alas sparkplugs are prone to fouling due to excessive oil.
Current research has revealed that great minds think alike and a new generation of light diesel engines are being developed, they don't have a sparkplug but fire with a new generation high powered glow plug, or chemical reaction ignition.
The beauty of the Mazda Rotary engine is that it doesn't have valves to burn, and for this reason I consider it a better option, others may disagree.
BTW the compression is 14:1 for best combustion, in terms of low emissions. A win/ win all around.
Keep a look out for these new engines, the technology has been driven my demands in Europe.
