Although I'm just starting out on an RV-7 build, I'm planning out about 5-10 years to start building an aircraft of my own design. I'm having trouble deciding on a mission, though. At first, I thought about an O-360-powered 4-seater (or really, 2+2) made for traveling, but by the time I finished it, I probably wouldn't have use for it. Now, I'm thinking about either a VW-powered single-seat day-VFR fun flyer, like the "RV-15" concept that was floated a few months ago on VAF, to complement the RV. This seems like it would be a little more manageable and affordable for a first design. Of course, there are probably some possibilities I haven't even though of.

Any suggestions from the crowd?

For background, my dad and I built an RV-6 many years ago, I have a degree in aerospace engineering, and work at an aircraft manufacturer. I'm also trying to stick to sheetmetal because I'm familiar with it and already have the tools; I don't like working with composites and don't really want to mess with fabric.
