Looking at the little bags (air filter wraps) that fit over the air filter that are supposed to keep the small dust and dirt out of the air filter. Slap a couple small grommets in the bag, and safety wire it to the carb for positive retention.

Down here (SE AZ, 15 minutes from the Mexican border) we get LOTS of blowing dust and dirt clouds. If something this simple will extend the life of my filters, I'd really enjoy it. Seems like a cheap $10 of insurance.
