Hi,
The vendor sells an exhaust with muffler but it is designed to optimize power and not really fit in an unknown, closely cowled aircraft. So I was wondering if taking the exhaust manifold and muffler, could we use a speaker and microphone to measure the audio characteristics?
With a map of audio attenuation versus frequency in cold air, we could fabricate an aerodynamic, exhaust system using disposable parts . . . say PVC and aluminum pipe . . . and tune the mechanical parts to similar audio characteristics. Once we have the dimensions of the mock-up, fabricate the high temperature parts and repeat the audio test at the last assembly to fine tune it.
I haven't found any mention of audio testing the exhaust so thought I'd ask.
