Although mentioned in another thread, I felt these flow solver software should be mentioned in their own thread:

Elmer multiphysics solver Open-source solver for multiple physics calculations. Available for Windows, OSX and Linux

OpenFOAM multiphysics solver for Linux. Quite a bit more difficult to use, I'd say.

Both will handle compressible flows, and I believe they will handle supersonic flows as well.


For less intricate and purely subsonic design, a 3D panel based flow solver might be the easiest to use, here's the link again for good measure:

However, the drag calculations on the software are not (yet) usable.
