I know of a number of attempts to produce small homemade radial engines, for example using VW or Corvair cylinders. And, of course, the Rotec engines are now on the market.

For inline engines, though, the pickings are slim (I am talking about engines under 100 hp). The Walter Mikron is theoretically still being produced but you don't hear much about it. Presumably, though, just like those radial projects, existing components from an air-cooled engline, say a Type 1 VW, could adapted to a custom crank and case to make a small inline 4. Such an engine would be a great substitute for the Cirrus and small Menascos of old for someone looking for that historic look.

Does anyone know of such a project to create an inline engine using stock parts?

Cheers,

Matthew
