    'SPA Panther

I had a great trip flying flying to Oshkosh with my uncle in his J-5. I met Dan Weseman and William Wynne. These are two great guys! I really enjoyed talking with them. Dan had his new SPA Panther on display. It has a William Wynne Corvair engine in it. This is one cool design. Should be a blast to fly. Looking forwards to seeing the finished aircraft. Dans site is http://www.sportperformanceaviation.com and Williams site is www.FlyCorvair.net

I resized the pictures of the Panther I took at Oshkosh. I like the steel tube and aluminum cockpit section. The Corvair is a nice clean installation. I like the intake and exaust manifolds.

Here are a few more. I really like this design. Considering a Panther for my next project.

Looks good, and has interesting construction. So this is the prototype? Hope it flies as good as it looks.

Unlike the OP, I'm not a fan of the intake and exhaust on that Corvair. I think there is a lot of power that was left on the table when they went with the log style manifolds. To me, that's the last resort, and you only go that way when the proper individual runner manifolds won't fit. I'd bet there is 15 - 20 HP hiding in that engine with proper manifolds.

I think Dan W also intends to sell welded-up fuselage kits to get folks started, and I know he intends to offer quite a bit of flexibility (trigear, conventional, different powerplants, the ability to fly without a canopy, etc). Looking at those metal panels--the drumming is going to be incredibly loud unless he takes some steps to address it.

It's a good looking plane and I think it will be popular if it performs as well as he expects and if he can handle the business aspects. He's sure making good progress.

Anyone obtained a kit, and started building, as of yet?
I'm thinking about one of these, sometime in the future, also, but I'd like to see some building progress, if at all possible.

Bit of a worry in my mind how he's setting it out, please pay half now and the other half when we send the wing kit even though we won't have the rest of the plane available then? Umm, no thank you. I'm also a bit confused about the plans, you buy a wing kit but also have to buy the plans?? - don't think people are going to be over the moon about that.

Was it an omen when I was looking at the pricing and the 'captcha' says "screw"?

But anyway, seems a realistic price if it gets his act together eventually.
