Re: Long distande cross country aircraft

I would consider actuating the doors with vacuum bellows and valves from auto HVAC units.

Re: Long distande cross country aircraft

A couple points in no particular order:

    * When a friend asked me to design the mechanicals for a set of retracts for an RV project, what I tried to sell him instead was a beefy wheel-shaped switch...
  3. Re: How to Cut, Trim, and Connect RG-400 Cable For Plasma III Ignition System

The one thing I do different is this: after I (carefully) strip away the exterior insulator, I poke a hole through the braid and then pull the center conductor (and its insulation) through the hole....

Re: Long distande cross country aircraft

Well, no. We've hashed this out several times. The consensus seems to be that flutter speed tracks a line that pretty much splits the difference between IAS and TAS.

    Re: Flying in zero G

All I see is a propeller spinning an astronaut with a battery drill. :)

    Re: help for select propeller

I suspect that your calculations are too optimistic to be useful. My primary suggestion would be to create an X-Y graph that plots known aircraft for the metrics we are discussing, and compare them...

Re: Is all 6061-T6 "Aircraft" quality?

    The latter.

As the other poster points out, if you are manufacturing certificated aircraft, and for certain repairs of same, you need to be able to demonstrate materials traceability.

    I have...

    Re: help for select propeller

Approaching this topic from a rather wider perspective:

I don't think that we can be of much help in suggesting a propeller for a 21 hp engine for such a machine, even if 250 kg is the maximum...

    Re: Aluminum foam composite construction

WARNING: Off-topic screed. You have been warnded.

I really liked the Monerai back when I was a kid. It was the perfect glider for someone 5'7, 110 lbs, and immortal. For larger and less impervious...

    Re: Aluminum foam composite construction

First, apologies for my cryptic and facetious earlier reply. Taking the long way around while looking for a shortcut is a grrrrr arrrgh for me. Especially in territories so thoroughly explored and...

    Re: Radial engine lubrication

No, almost never. Where roller bearings are used for the master rod, the crankshaft is made in pieces that can be inserted through the bearing IDs, after which it is bolted together.
  18. Re: Why do the Long-EZ and Varieze have anhedral in the main wings?

At issue is that Aviation Partners has demonstrated that they have IP attorneys and are not afraid of deploying them tactically and strategically. They probably won't mess with us little guys, but...
  19. Re: Why do the Long-EZ and Varieze have anhedral in the main wings?

I hardly consider third degree burns, with skin grafts and debridement, to be a "gold mine." The Stella Liebeck lawsuit is a textbook case for how a large corporation acted negligently, NFBSK'd up...

    Re: Aardem powered concept

I would end the steel truss at the aft end of the cockpit, and make the aft fuselage out of carbon.
  22. Re: Why do the Long-EZ and Varieze have anhedral in the main wings?

Kind of an off-topic nitpick, but:

"Blended Winglet" is a trademarked term referring to proprietary technology patented by Aviation Partners. They have in the past been somewhat sticky about their...

    Re: Truss chormoly fuselage pusher

So far as I know, all of the tapered EVO wings were aluminum. They were wings originally designed for some other airplane, and built by HPAI (no relation) in Eastern Europe.

    Re: Match hole mismatch

Be careful about how much misalignment you accept. There are a few places in the RV12 kit where they use disruptions in the hole patterns to differentiate between right and left assemblies. So if you...

    Re: "modern Altimeter"

Interesting reading. It appears to apply only to powered aircraft with standard airworthiness certificates. So gliders and experimentals are exempt?
