  1. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

And it didn't take them long to get rid of the gov's teletype machines that were still in use!!! Certainly not like the gov's 30 yr phase out plan.
  2. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Yes, devil is in the details and no doubt the question will be answered soon enough.

I believe what I said was "midair collision fatalities". In 2016, there were ~14 fatalities* in the US...
  3. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

The airline lobby is pursuing a 5 yr grace period for airliners to equip with ADS-B. That means they will skate to 2025 without compliance. Be interesting to see if GA gets the same deal.
  4. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

There is no evidence the function will be turned over to a "for profit" corporation. For example Nav Canada is a privately run, not-for-profit corporation that operates Canada's civil air space and...
  5. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

The common perception is privatization = user fees. Not necessarily true of course but trying to look at concerns from all all viewpoints.
  6. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Which is exactly why a properly designed fee based system can work in favor of the sport/recreational flyer. I don't need to go to the big airport with 9,900 ft runway, so shouldn't have pay for...
  7. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

    assumes facts not in evidence.

I'll mention safety only as that needs to be priority one:

In the last year, 7 TCAS RA's, all while under direct control of ATC. In one case I advise we're...
  8. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Please share in detail the how's and why's the solution will be bad............

The problems with ATC are it's bloated, too expensive to operate and can't keep up with technology. Not being able...
  9. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Ever have someone walk up at the tail end of a conversation and insert an opinion despite the fact they missed the discussion?

The premise was "It would then be possible for a non-IFR rated pilot...
  10. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Can't see a non-IFR rated pilot having the skill set to avoid severe weather. I know ATC doesn't understand weather. It's not part of their training.

One of the problems today with ATC and...
  11. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

if atc runs a plane into bad weather and kills everyone, who will be liable?
  12. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Nothing says they will have to continue to grow and expand. No reason why the level of services won't depend on the number of operations, passenger enplanements and cargo, as it is now. Success would...

Methods to repair this plane were discussed at length here on HBA......
  14. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

If the recent aopa debacle on eliminating the third class doesn't convince you alphabet organizations might not have your best interest in mind, nothing will.
  15. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

Aw baloney. Published procedures are set up anywhere traffic demands it. Plenty of GA only airports around major cities have published procedures. ATC creates temporary procedures for GA all the time...
  16. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

The only plane that matters on a TCAS is the one that causes a conflict.,,....I fly with the most advance TCAS system in operation and we don't make threats to ATC cause there are planes on TCAS....
  17. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

The above is not true. Airlines are not paying a fuel tax to support the system, there is a passenger ticket tax for that purpose.
  18. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

I would think the reply from ATC to such a threat would be [chuckle] "Roger, say intentions" [more chuckle]. Pilot has prerogative to go around but has limited supply of fuel. That command authority...
  19. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

What are these "threats" you refer to? A pilot can not tell ATC to change separation requirements to suit pillot. Certainly can not demand that ATC not have other traffic around.
  20. Re: ATC Privatization Proposed in White House Budget

"GA" is a huge segment of total aviation activity in the US, more than most realize. According to current data, ATC handling is equally split (50/50) between GA and airline traffic. There is of...

    Re: Snag A N-Number Question

I thought it was 5 yrs. During that time, if it's just due to expired registration, the owner can bring his registration up to date and retain the n-number and I would guess that's partly the reason...
