    Re: Fuselage Jig Blocks

I'm lovin' this. Nothing makes me happier than to see a delightful jig like this that won't get damaged when a fuselage is welded on it. Gee, what a nice thought, a jig that doesn't get damaged, so...
  2. Re: a Greek Foam-Composite Airchair attempt

Wow! Congratulations on your construction project!

I LOVE slope soaring too, R/C models through full scale sailplanes :)

    Re: davis da-5

I think he's referring to the bucket of prop wash that the old feller at the airport said he'd throw at the tail. BMCJ I'm sure that as an old-time ramp rat at Fla-Bob you are personally familiar...

    Re: quadraplane

Didn't you mean 96 square feet on the '104s???

196 would seem to be a better number for the whole formation in the photo :)

Re: Icon A5 Update - No Deliveries!?!

The fact that you can buy one of those Republic Seabee aluminum V8 conversions for less money isn't helping either. Well, for that matter you can buy a Martin Mars for less money...

HBA member Addicted2Climbing has personal, hands-on experience with custom extrusions in SMALL quantities. To my pleasant surprise, he found one or two extruders that had very small minimums. He...

    Re: streamlining flying wires?

I had the foam cores hot-wired with the opening in the middle to fit the Cessna strut shape perfectly. So when the fairing was installed, by all rights and logic it should have been "flying" at...

It won't be long before the Moderators warn us about discussing politics, and rightfully so. But to address other posts in this thread... the "global economy" and the outsourcing of jobs is primarily...

    Re: streamlining flying wires?

Those photos and this discussion takes me back to when I was the smartest person in the whole world. I made up a set of custom airfoiled fairings for standard Cessna extruded aluminum wing struts. I...

    Re: streamlining flying wires?

There used to be an R/C model accessories company called Fourmost Products. They made a snap-on fairing for different sizes of wire (for model landing gears and cabane struts). Something like this...
  14. Re: Small Multiengine Designs--Cheap engines, your own TriMotor or Mini- Connie

If I recall they looked like large R/C model engines, however I also have a memory of him displaying it with a couple of large brushless outrunner motors too. I'm not sure if it ever flew in either...

    Re: One Pound Survival Pod

No parachutes (airplane or pilot) weigh one pound. No airbag that provides any "Mars Lander" type cushion will weigh one pound.

There is, however a one-pound device which has been shown to protect...
  16. Re: Small Multiengine Designs--Cheap engines, your own TriMotor or Mini- Connie

Something with the general layout of the Piaggio Avanti, but made with parts from a damaged single seat racing sailplane, would be a really cool little runabout with great performance.

    Cut the...
  17. Re: Designing the fastest two place VW-powered airplane

+1 on the Tailwind. There's a very nice one in the hangar next to me, and I have sat in it. Surprising amount of room inside for an airplane that's small on the outside.
  18. Re: Designing the fastest two place VW-powered airplane

Then as a basis of comparison, using a known good high wing aircraft to shield out some of those Aussie UV rays, perhaps someone could model or calculate the OP's mission using the Pipistrel Virus?...

  20. Re: Designing the fastest two place VW-powered airplane

Scott Winton was pretty far along that path with his Facet Opal. Single place and 41HP, excellent speed and range. The aircraft was clearly able to set the records he was planning when he died. So...
