Whose design is this? Do you have rights to distribute it?

the plans are from 1973 I think the designers name was Bob Harlan and some school was handing out copys and this guy got a set from his school as a school project to build and fly it when he was a kid.now he made copys of them and sold me one ther not plans ther more like drawings I dont think ther copyright

If they're from 1983, they're copyright the author unless the copyright has been assigned or relinquished.

No worries, just wanted to mention there was an issue. I don't love these rules, but they do exist in the US. By default, everything is copyrighted... even this little conversation here.

The numbers on that plane are not, to say the least, realistic. 110 lbs empty... normally empty weight includes engines (which will be at least 40 lbs for this setup), but even just as structure... I don't buy it. Quite possible you'd come in under the ultralight limit, though.

350 lb takeoff weight, let's say. If the 110 lbs were true structure weight, with 40 lbs of engine and 30 lbs of gas you'd better weigh less than 170 lbs; judging from your photo that may be doable, but no room for error on the structure weight. Then, twin 8 hp engines, direct drive? At a 35 mph cruise, you'd be fortunate to get 60 lbs of thrust... which is a no-climb condition at a 5:1 drag ratio (if you're within weight limits, again!)... which, for a draggy biplane, isn't actually going to be that hard to fail to meet. Direct drive, the static acceleration numbers also make an effectively instant takeoff unbelievable.

So... well, for $200, you can't go wrong learning from it. Building experience is great to have. Just don't be surprised when it doesn't meet the claims, because I'll cover the $200 for you if it somehow does. :-) While you're working on it, save up for the minimax, which is a known, flying design.

sorry its a 1973 and I know the biplane flys because I saw it on youtube and im probably going to wait untell im a pilot to build the minimax cause I can't raise that kind of money. .and the empty weight is 110 without the engine it was designed to be a glider that you could put an engine on I was thinking on a 2cycle snowmobile engine. cause they are vary light and have planty of power I was thinking on this plane because its so cheap anyone can afford it and it would get me in the air soon. and is it legall to repost the plans. thanks

This is an old thread and the original poster hasn't been seen here in nearly two years.
