So if you have been flying in the vicinity of Logan-Cache Airport at Brigham City, Utah, those things you saw flying around were not giant mosquitoes. They were UAV’s flown by Utah State University, Utah Water Research Laboratory, 1600 Canyon Road, Logan, UT students.

They had, has since expired, a permit from FAA to fly the UAV’s. More info here:

I’m not sure this is a good thing. Supposedly they had spotters watching for manned aircraft and they were supposed to inform the PIC of the UAV of the traffic. They had only look down cameras, so the PIC could not see where he was gong.
