I understand that one of the toughest problems amphibians have to overcome is breaking the water's grip at take off. Why has no one come up with hydraulically operated skis that are flush with the hull for landing, but will deploy to literally lift the hull out of the water at much slower speeds? Same deal with a hydrofoil except tougher to engineer.

It seems a natural solution. Is my intuition failing me?
