Hi there everyone,

I have been a long time lurker around here. I am coming up on some long service leave in about a year and am thinking about the possibility of building a plane. I would have about 3 months of time to get it built or the vast majority of it built. Is it possible to build a plane in that period of time? Of course the answer will depend on the type of plane being built.

I would be looking at something that fits under the rules for an ultralight plane in Australia and would prefer something plans built to save on cost both of a kit and being able source materials locally.

In terms of style of plane I would be looking for a small single seater, something I could take out for a blast around the local area instead of a ride around the hills on my motorbike. I am a fan of the Hummelbird and the Davis DA-11 style of plane. Or from the composite side of things the Mike Arnold AR-5.

So how about it? Am I just dreaming that it could be done in that time period? Is a composite plane feasible? An aluminium plane? I have some time to learn the skills required in the year until my long service leave so I could hit the ground running and potentially have started building already.
