Since I am looking into UL or LSA type aircrafts I always come across Rotax engines as if there is no alternative. I know there is but what makes this brand so popular?

I am asking this because I couldn't find anything on information that would give evidence that they are better than other engines.

There are so many lightweight, powerful and reliable engines available that cost a fraction because they are produced in the millions.

Am I missing something here? My current thoughts are going into looking at motorcycle or scooter engines where I can get spares and service on every corner in town.

Thanks,
Edward
