Hi all.

Not sure if this I the best place to post.

This may be dumb, But for a while, I was contemplating buying a small farm, building a STOL/BUSH plane, then build a simple backyard runway.
After checking online - 4 Ways to Build a Grass Landing Strip - wikiHow
it seems this is really a whole lot of work and a whole lot of space!
The link tells a 3200' length is necessary, but some local laws only require 1000' for ultralights/STOL planes. But 1000' is still larger than I imagined.

A Zenith CH 801 for example should be comfortable with a 600' runway and require a less than perfect runway.

So how is this normally done with large backyards to takeoff and land their BUSH planes? Do they all have 100% FAA approved runways? Even pilots in rural Alaska?

If I must meet every requirement, then I may as well (try to) register the grass landing strip as a real private runway. Or rethink everything.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
