Hi guys,
I'm a millwright, totally new to aircraft construction and design, and in love with the Vought V-173/XF5U.
(Vought V-173 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and Vought XF5U - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I'm gathering information to build a model or two to play around with ahead of actually designing (and hopefully building) a plane based on these designs, and I wondered if anyone who had done such a recreation before would be able to answer a question or two:
Where does a guy find more information about the original designs? And for those of you who have done this before, did you wind tunnel test your models/analyze and tweak the airfoil? How many models do you typically go through before calling your design complete? And lastly, the V-173 was a wood and fabric design - what hurdles am I looking at in designing an aluminum airframe based on the same wing?
I look forward to your answers!
