I desperately want a certified Diesel engine in my concept. (Sleek, carbon, lowwing, 2 person tandem, taildragger, 225 kts cruise, ultra long range). Why?

*Fuel availability (especially for the further future, since this design isn't going to fly within a couple of years)
*Safety (I'm a smoker. Putting out a sigarette in diesel is possible. In gasoline that's unwise.)
*Weight of fuel (for longer range a heavier diesel and less fuel usage is beneficial)
*Safety (I absolutely want a certified engine, build in significant numbers)

Since Thielert is obviously out (bankrupt) Austro Engines just got their 170 hp AE300 certified. Does anybody know of any technical drawbacks of this engine and whether it's available for homebuilts/experimentals?
