In general, how does the aspect ratio of a wing affect aircraft performance and handling?
I do not want to compare gliders to power aircraft. More or less curious as to how a very low aspect ratio wing around 3:1 compares to most Ultralight/ light sport and GA aspect ratios.
For instance, there are 2 airplanes with 130 square foot wings basically identical except for the wing span and wing chord. One has a wing span of 20 feet which as an aspect ratio of 3.08 the other has a wing span of 30 feet which has an aspect ratio of 6.93.
How will the following differ in general?
Cruise speed:
Glide/ sink rate:
Stalls:
STOL performance:
Rough air handling:
Drag:
Max Gross weight:
More or less stable
Spin resistance:
