Is there a design flaw I should be looking into or was it a one time faulty part? I have a new but old stock mz-202 that I'd open up if there was anything I could look for. I would probably feel more comfortable having Rotax Rick work on my engine (two stroke experience)than Mike Busch for whom I have the deepest respect in his knowledge of the certified stuff. Mikes last month article in Sport Aviation was very sobering to the fact that "to err is human". I'm sure Rotax Rick maintains the highest standards for his help and the parts he uses. Even the finest manufacture of the finest bearings might ship out a bad batch... **** happens.
His first reduction units where built using only three bolts to hold them on. It was found this did not work and everyone in service failed. Mine just happened to slip through the cracks and did not get sent back before it was purchased to go onto my airframe.
Leon upgraded this reduction unit. These units have 5 bolts instead of 3. If your reduction unit has 3 bolts, contact Leon at Compact Radial Engines and he will get you the parts you need.
I really did like the MZ line of engines. To bad I had the problems I did.
